This was a lesson to go with the book The Lamb and the Butterfly
by Arnold Sundgaard and illustrated by Eric Carle. Well, who cannot be inspired by one of Eric Carle’s beautiful and colourful illustrations? Whenever I find one at the library, I’d know what we’ll be doing for the next art lesson.
Of course, the kids just couldn’t have enough of zigs and zags and ziggety zags…
I wanted to introduce the concept of symmetry to the younger kids and it proved to be a real tough cookie. They did their best while adding the oil pastel patterns symmetrically. By the time we came to the painting part, we jumped right in and made the butterflies as colourful as we could.
